The Manager's Position on Celtic

McKenna referred to the Glasgow giants as "an enormous soccer institution" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "extensive rebuilding" with Ipswich Town.

The 39-year-old took charge of Portman Road in 2021 and guided the team to the Premier League with consecutive elevations, but they managed only a handful of victories last season as they were demoted back to the Championship and they presently occupy 12th in the Championship.

"I have not had such discussions," the London-born ex- Irish youth international said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"This isn't a matter I have considered seriously, or where any portion of my focus is this week.

"I have a special job here at a remarkable club. And we're at a really important phase of the campaign. Everything outside of that hasn't touched my radar."

Background and Contractual Aspects

Reports indicate that McKenna would be open to speaking to Celtic given his boyhood allegiances.

"During youth, we all have our affinities," he said when asked about these. "I don't think all people has to go around and announce what they used to be, but naturally it's a massive sports organization."

McKenna agreed to a new four-year contract in last year and was asked about his reported buyout clause.

"Throughout coaching agreements, there are things," he responded. "I'm unaware what mine are and, were I informed, I wouldn't disclose you regardless!

"I approach this role like I'll be Town's coach indefinitely. I know that's not invariably going to be the case, but I'll always do my best as long as I am here."

The Welsh Coach's Position

The former striker played for the Hoops on temporary transfer from Newcastle United in 2005, but the former Wales forward is minded to finish the current global tournament campaign, a stance that would practically eliminate the 46-year-old from immediately taking the Celtic job.

The Welsh squad are presently third in their qualifying group behind leaders the Red Devils and second-placed North Macedonia.

Wins over Liechtenstein and their rivals in November would book their position in the final qualifying round, but they are all but guaranteed of reaching that stage, thanks to a productive European competition campaign, even if they fail to finish as their group runners-up.

Given his current stance, the Wales manager, whose contract expires after Euro 2028, would be unavailable until following the play-offs at the minimum.
